After reading the seventh chapter in the Bedford Book of Genres, I kind of got overwhelmed to be quite honest. I never realized there were so many ways to cite information in a text. I have always been a fan of using the basic parenthetical citation, or an in text type citation. Then I began to read about other options such as how to do so after quoting, during paraphrasing, and while summarizing. I didn't realize there were way more options to choose from in difference to the usual one I always use. In all honesty, it seemed like a lot of unnecessary work. Don't get me wrong- citing sources is most definitely an important (yet frustrating) task to do while writing. Without giving credit to an author, plagiarism occurs. It is so easy to accidentally do it, which is why we must cite absolutely everything we come across basically. But my English teacher in high school always told me to stick to one way of citing your sources throughout the whole paper. This makes the most sense to me. Even though I know new options, I'll probably stick to what I know best.
