Before reading Chapter 1 in the Bedford Book of Genres, the whole concept of genres were very confusing to me. I didn’t understand the difference between genres and text, and didn't know how to clearly get across what genre I was trying to convey for Project 1. I learned by reading Chapter 1 that the key element in helping your genre be clear is to think about the audience that will be reading your writing when composing any sort of essay. If you tailor to the reader, it is easier for them to understand the writing, as well as use their imagination more strongly. If an audience member knows nothing about your topic, it is important to add as much fine detail as possible to make sense. You may know a lot about the topic, but does your reader? Most likely not. It is also important to appeal to ethos pathos and logos, because these all round out an essay. I feel as though they all hit very important areas of expertise when writing, so leaving one out could potentially be detrimental to a piece of writing.
