I knew Maine was known for their lobster, but I never would have guessed they took the little crustacean so seriously. The Maine Lobster Festival is truly an example of pride in one's home, and appreciation for holding on to traditions. People of all ages come together to enjoy eating the animal, and I cannot help but envy that. The seemingly useless shellfish is a part of Maine culture, and has been for years. It caught me by surprise that lobsters were at one tie considered a "poor man's food," because in today's world, lobster is a delicacy. The way lobsters are caught, cooked, and even eaten is so specific. This even furthers the fact that these shellfish are so precious to the people of Maine. It is their main industry, and it centers the state by connecting everyone together. I did also like the fact that Wallace mentioned the controversy behind killing these animals in such large quantities and not in the most humane of ways. Of course, the people of Maine are most likely not going to want to discontinue how it is done, but it is always important to consider all sides of an argument.
